Iron ore pellets are the feed material for steel manufacturing companies and fed to the blast furnace and DRI mills in the steelmaking process. The pellets industry is witnessing a structural change in demand supply scenario led by shift in iron and steel industry towards higher quality raw material.
Steps in the Modern Steelmaking Process Ironmaking, the first step in making steel, involves the raw inputs of iron ore, coke, and lime being melted in a blast furnace. The resulting molten iron—also referred to as hot metal—still contains 4-4.5% carbon and other impurities that make it brittle.
Ladle Refining Furnaces are used to raise the temperature and adjust the chemical composition of molten metal. Without LRFs, higher tap temperatures are normally required from steel making furnaces due to heat losses during refining with conventional ladles.
Detailed statistics provided for July showed basic oxygen furnace steelmaking rose 11.4% to 2.645 million mt on a year earlier basis, with BOF output in the first seven months of 2015 totaling 18.111 million mt, up 1% on the same period of 2014.
