This work proposes the use of basic oxygen furnace steel slag (BOFS) as a chemical soil stabilizer. Sixteen different mixtures of lime, cement, and processed BOFS were tested and compared. The parameters evaluated were unconfined compressive strength, diametrical tensile strength, California bearing ratio, expansibility, and environmental contamination.
The substitution of Basic oxygen furnace slag enhances the Flexural strength of M-25 concrete mix up to certain percentage. After adding 15% Basic Oxygen furnace slag in the mix, there is an increase of 17.67% strength after 7 days, and 17.26% increase after

The basic oxygen furnace (BOP or BOF) is the process in which a mixture of scrap (25 to 30 percent) and hot metal (75 to 70 percent) from the blast furnace is exposed to oxygen blown at a high velocity into the bath. Such furnaces may be top-blown, bottom
the blast furnace (BF) followed by steelmaking in the basic oxygen furnace (BOF), and ironmaking via direct reduction (DRI) followed by steelmaking in the electric arc furnace (EAF). 2. Scrap-based steel accounts for about 30% of global steel production. It is
Basic oxygen furnace slag - BOS (also called LD-converter slag) is formed during the conversion of hot metal from the blast furnace into steel in a basic oxygen furnace. In this process the hot metal is treated by blowing oxygen to remove carbon and other elements that have a high affinity to oxygen.
Basic Oxygen Furnace (BOF) dust can be mixed with binders to prepare cold-bonded pellets and return to BOF for recycling, because of its high total iron and alkaline oxide content. Nevertheless, the lengthy digestion reaction of dead-burned MgO and CaO contained in BOF dust causes expansion and cracking of the pellets, which seriously affect the pellet strength.
Secondly, the strength test, the CBR test and the expansion test of the compacted basic oxygen furnace slag mixtures were carried out in order to clarify the strength characteristics of the powdered basic oxygen furnace slag as a subbase material and the

Basic oxygen furnace slags (BOS) are by-products of basic oxygen steel production. Whereas the solubility of some elements from these slags has been well investigated, information about the mineralogy and related leaching, i.e., availability of the environmentally relevant elements chromium (Cr), molybdenum (Mo), and vanadium (V), is still lacking. The aim of this study was to investigate

Abstract: Basic oxygen furnace slag (BOFS) was ground to three levels of fineness as a replacement for cement at weight proportions of 10, 30, 50, and 70 wt.%. Fineness and weight proportion were shown to have significant effects on the flowability and setting
Abstract: In the present study, the effects of replacing sand by different percentages of basic-oxygen furnace slag on compressive strength, bulk density and gamma ray-radiation properties of mortar have been investigated.

Steel - Steel - Bessemer steel: Bulk steel production was made possible by Henry Bessemer in 1855, when he obtained British patents for a pneumatic steelmaking process. (A similar process is said to have been used in the United States by William Kelly in 1851, but it was not patented until 1857.) Bessemer used a pear-shaped vessel lined with ganister, a refractory material containing silica
